Understanding Accreditation
While doing your search for a Texas online education, you will come across the term accreditation. It is important to know the status of an online education programs accreditation and exactly what is meant by this term. Many online education programs that are not accredited will use word play to make you think they are an accredited online education program. Knowing the secrets they use will help you to tell when an online education program is being sketchy about their accreditation. The first thing to look for is the willingness of the online education program to give you more information on their accreditation and the accrediting source. If they just say they are accredited and leave it at that without any proof you should be a little concerned. Accredited online education programs are proud of achieving accreditation and are always more than happy to show proof of this accomplishment.
Another thing to look for is the way the word accredited is being used on the website. Many non-accredited online education programs will use terms that relate to accreditation and being accredited but not straight out say they are accredited. For instance, you may notice that some online education programs will say they are "in the process of becoming accredited". This is not a promise that will receive accreditation and could very well mean that have been and will continue to be in the process of becoming accredited way after you have completed your online education program with them. Either they are or they are not. If you are very interested in the online education program that is "in the process" of getting their accreditation maybe you should try contacting them and finding out when they expect to become accredited and them contact them at that date.
There may also be some other terms that you may come across that are being used by online education programs that are non-accredited. Some of these terms are chartered, registered, licensed, recognized, authorized or approved. All of these terms are ways of tricking you into thinking that the online education program holds some kind of value when it really doesn't.
One key thing to remember when searching for online education programs and proving their accreditation is to look for a straightforward approach by the online education program to stating that they are accredited and always ask to see information on the online education programs accreditation and the accrediting agency. If they are willing to turn this information over to you then they are probably telling the truth about their accreditation.
